Welcome to class! Below are descriptions of the current courses offered for Fall 2018. This is a Community Classroom. If there is any topic, book, or subject, etc that you’d like me to consider for Fall 2018, please request it.

 Hebrew Alef-Beit Accelerated 

A 2-week online course to teach students the Hebrew alef-beit, including letter formation, letter identification, and letter sounds. The course will also familiarize students with numerical values, final letters, paleo/picture meaning, and letter vocabulary. Course includes a tangible set of alef-beit cards that are necessary for the course and useful for study.{Pre-Requisite: None.}

Week 1:(September 11): A 90-minute accelerated session covering the content above.

Week 2: (September 18): A 60-minute follow-up session to review the the Week 1 session (and ask any last-minute questions).

Hebrew Grammar 101 Accelerated

Intro to Hebrew Vowels: A 2-week guided course where students will learn and apply the nikkud system in an effort to advance to beginning reading. Students will familiarize themselves with each vowel sound and apply them to Hebrew letters for simple reading drills and practice. Course includes a tangible set of alef-bet cards that are necessary for the course and useful for study. {Pre-Requisite: Must know the entire Hebrew alef-bet, identifying each letter and naming its correct sound.}

Week 1: (October 23: A 60-minute accelerated session covering the content above.

Week 2: (October 30): A 60-minute follow-up session to review the the Week 1 session (and ask any last-minute questions).

World Literature (Fall 2018)

World Literature introduces literary works (various styles) from four different continents, Arabia (Israel/Egypt), Asia (India), Africa (West and South Africa), and Europe written from the Ancient World to the Modern World. Through close reading and discussion, you will gain an understanding and appreciation of works of fiction in general, and of our writers’ countries and histories in particular. Artistic and political movements will be introduced as they impact the works, and we will focus on authorial strategies and analyze themes they explore. Furthermore, students will learn the appropriate terminology as tools for textual and critical analysis. (World Literature Spring 2019 will follow.) Once credit unit may be earned after completion of both semesters.
